fan_flashworks - Prompt 479. Underwater
Word count: 1,025
Rating: Mature
Warnings: child abuse, suicidal tendencies (ish), mentioned A/B/O dynamics
A/N: Dominick is around 14 at this point, even if her age is not stated in this piece. The A/B/O is barely mentioned, but it'll be relevant in future pieces. I haven't written this character in over two years, I believe.
Summary: Dominick has heard sometimes parents don't know why they're punishing their children, but the children know why they're being punished. Dominick wasn't one of those shildren.

Sherlock Holmes: Come If Convenient by rudbeckia

![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (tagged as both books and Granada)
Pairings/Characters: Holmes/Watson
Rating: E
Length: 13,317 words
Creator Links: rudbeckia
Theme: Angst with a Happy Ending, courting
Summary: Watson, finally pushed away by Holmes’s lack of regard for his feelings, has left 221B Baker Street and moved into his practice. Holmes is confused—he did nothing wrong! But when Holmes realises (because everyone who gives him advice tells him so) that he is to blame, he knows he has to do something meaningful to win Watson back.
Reccer's Notes: Watson gets tried of Holmes' mistreatment and decides to leave Baker St. Much angst in the beginning, but also a Holmes determined to get his Watson back, cue the wooing! I enjoyed the inclusion of side characters like Mrs Hudson, Mycroft and Lestrade, and there was also an original character, a woman doctor who works with Watson, that I greatly enjoyed. It is tagged as both books and Granada, but I pictured the Granada lads when reading it.

5 Things Felino Killed and 1 He Didn't (Beige 15, Fade to Grey 5, Kohl 1)

Name: 5 Things Felino Killed and 1 He Didn't
Story: Up at Silvercat's
Colors: Beige #15 (modem), Fade to Grey #5 (rathe-ripe), Kohl #1 (lipstick)
Supplies and Styles: modeling clay (stealthy), pastels (sense-ation, sense of community), chalk, novelty beads, beading wire, glue (You aren't the biggest advocate for working under constraints... The greatest freedom comes through discipline.), canvas, miniature collection, photography, panorama
Word Count: 544
Rating: PG, for animal death, hunting, and blood
Notes: Fun fact! The name thing with the pumabirds is called a noa-name. I'm going to do a write-up on my blog (which cross-posts to my Dreamwidth) about the animals in this. Also keep in mind that an adult Nyji is only 4 to 4.5 feet tall. The Nyji nation Felino is part of separates things by hunter (/ gatherer / warrior) and homemaker (/ farmer / crafter) instead of male and female.
Millipede
When Felino earned his knife, he still wasn't big enough to go with the other hunters, but he could go solo so long as he kept the village in sight. When he came back with a millipede as long as two adult Nyji, both his parents and the other hunters highly suspected he had broken that rule, but as the millipede was a valuable source of poisons, medicine, and materials, he got away with only a mild scolding.
Flying Frogs
Nyji don't usually kill the vibrant frog-like wingefts. The trees produce enough fruit for both people and efts. But an overly wet spring meant fruit rotting on the trees and a boom in wingefts. So any available Nyji were required to fight back the waves of hungry gliding creatures that hit every day. Felino, now an adolescent, was in the inner ring of skilled hunters that focused on the ones that got past everyone else. They ate wingeft until they were sick and sported multi-colored accessories that fall.
Green
His brother was still deciding whether to be a hunter or a homemaker when he got an offer to join a trading expedition. It was with imploring eyes and an unsteady voice that he asked Felino to take care of his plants, and then offered detailed notes when Felino agreed. It wasn't that complicated and Felino was laid up with a broken arm anyway. Felino dutifully watered, fertilized, and gave his brother updates in their weekly chats. It was three months later when the expedition returned and Felino proudly showed off the blossoming plot.
Spikehorse
Soon after Felino finally got to go on his first big hunt. It followed the century old pattern to harvest a dozen of the thousands of migrating spike-horses to fill the village's winter stores. They'd be competing with pumabirds, giant efts, and saberdogs. The hunters stayed in pairs, armed with great bows only used for this hunt and for ceremonies. A whoop and thunder; several spike-beasts spooked into their ambush. Felino aimed, his arms shaking, and let loose. His wasn't the only arrow in the calf, but it'd been a crippling shot. His first big kill.
Pumabird
Pumabirds were a danger when one left the village: ambush predators camouflaged above and not shy about killing Nyji. One never spoke its name while on the ground and in the village it was usually called "green grandfather." Felino always kept watch, as he had been taught, for fresh claw marks on tree trunks. He was flanking hunters returning with a carcass and vegetable baskets when he heard a rustle from above. His knife flew before he quite realized. It lodged in the birds neck. The others turned to him in shock and raised toasts to him that night.

Fandom: Star Trek AOS
Pairings/Characters: Kirk/Spock
Rating: Teen +
Length: 11,213
Creator Links: BC_Brynn at AO3
Theme: Angst with a happy ending.
Summary: My name is S’chn T’gai Spock, and I am six years old. At the age of twenty-nine, I have been involved in an accident that has reduced my physical age and erased my memories accordingly.
Reccer's Notes: Usually, in stories about aging, one partner/beloved grows old, but in this one, Spock finds himself a child again. Despite losing many memories, he knows and remembers Jim, and he is absolutely determined to get back to him. But he has to grow up first. There are a lot of challenges along the way.
What I admire about this story is that both the author and the narrator (Spock) have such singular focus and total commitment to the project. One of the issues the story takes on--and what sets it apart, IMO--is the way that a slightly different upbringing and life path create a different person. It also addresses the sacrifices one must make to achieve a goal. It's absolutely heartbreaking. But, as this theme specifies, there is a happy ending. Also, of course, it's got big meant-to-be energy!
